I’ve been away from the blog lately, and been really looking forward to updating it. Today I got my hands on a real beauty, Rouge Expressioniste from YSL’s latest fall collection, Contemporary Amazon. I know, we’re over with fall and actually facing spring (I’d like to think!), but I’ve been thinking about getting Rouge Expressioniste for so long, ever since I first saw it, so I’m really happy about it today :) Here it is, together with GoldenEye (OPI, Skyfall Holiday Collection for 2012) and french manicure tips with Vertigo by Chanel on my nails. GoldenEye is really sparkly!
The Spy Who Loved Me, a classic red with so hard to catch sparkle and golden shimmer, is from the Skyfall Holiday Collection 2012 by OPI. This is a miniature bottle, and it’s so so tiny, you can barely hold the cap. This makes it quite hard to do an even painting, and I don’t think I’ll buy any of OPI’s miniatures in the future.
This is Flaming Rose from the Marilyn Monroe Collection by MAC. A classic and feminine red with a hint of pink, really beautiful. Flaming rose was easy to apply and dried superquickly. But the removal… what a mess! My nails and fingers where stained red, it was like the polish and remover mixture got absorbed by my skin while trying to remove the polish. I had to let the colour rub off my fingers while doing different things during the day, because the polish remover made such a mess. It’s a pretty red, but I would go for another one, with another formula, that is not only easy to apply but also easy to remove. For me it’s important that the removal is painless, since it’s the most boring part when doing your nails :)
My sweet husband got his hands on some goodies from the Marilyn Monroe collection by MAC :) Here’s a small preview.
Beautiful and iconic Marilyn on the lipstick case and bottles. The lipstick is Scarlet Ibis and the polishes are Kid Orange and Flaming Rose. Kid Orange is a bright tomato red, I love this kind of red, retro and so feminine. Flaming Rose is a classic red. Both are very Marilyn! Swatches are coming up!
Base coat (Poshé, fast drying) – Two coats Exqusite Scarlet – Top coat (Poshé – VERY fast drying). I like this colour, and the formula is very nice and fast drying, but the brush is way too wide – as wide as my pinky nail! This made it difficult to paint neatly and not get polish outside of the nail. Poshé topcoat is the best one I’ve ever tried, it dries in only 2 minutes!
